I wanted to create something a little different.
Something natural, beautiful and thoughtfully made. Something that brought the wonderful world of scent into our homes without needing a long list of ingredients.
And so, at the heart of every Blended By Mama melt, you’ll find British beeswax.
From the hive to the melt
Sourcing my beeswax has always been incredibly important to me. I didn’t want to simply buy whatever wax was cheapest or easiest to find. I wanted to know where it came from, who had cared for the bees and, wherever possible, keep that journey as close to home as I could.
I source my beeswax exclusively from British beekeepers, choosing suppliers as locally as possible to where we live in the North of England.
The wax is a beautiful, natural, raw product, gently filtered by the beekeeper to remove impurities while retaining the character of the wax itself. Its colour can naturally vary from batch to batch, from soft golden yellow through to a deep, warm caramel, depending on the flowers the bees have visited and the hive it has come from.
And then there is the scent.
Warm honey, flowers, hay and something wonderfully earthy. A subtle reminder that this isn’t a manufactured ingredient — it is something the bees have made.
Working with beeswax has taught me to appreciate the beauty of natural variation. No two batches are quite the same, and I think that’s part of what makes it so special.
One day, I’d love to take this journey a step further and learn the art of beekeeping myself, with hives of my own and perhaps even beeswax from our very own bees. For now, I’m incredibly grateful to the British beekeepers who make it possible for me to work with such a beautiful material.
Then comes the blending…
My years working with LUSH Cosmetics gave me a wonderful foundation in the world of fragrance and essential oils, and taught me to really listen to scent — to understand how individual notes can complement, contrast and transform one another.
But that certainly didn’t mean the experimenting stopped there.
There have been countless evenings spent opening bottles, wafting oils under my nose, making notes, changing ratios and starting all over again until something just clicked.
Every blend begins with an idea, a memory or a feeling.
I use pure essential oils, carefully chosen from suppliers who share my commitment to responsible and ethical sourcing. Each oil brings its own character to a blend, and together they become something entirely different.
The result is a collection of scents inspired by the natural world around us — woodland, gardens, wild places, changing seasons, warm kitchens, rain-soaked earth and quiet evenings at home.
From a bright morning cup of The Morning Brew, to the soft, comforting scent of Hive Sweet Hive as the day begins to wind down, each melt has its own little story to tell.
Made slowly, with intention…
Blended By Mama isn’t about making hundreds of identical melts as quickly as possible.
Everything is made in small batches, by hand, using carefully chosen ingredients and a whole lot of love.
The beeswax itself brings something wonderfully unique to every melt, while the essential oils create the scent stories that have become the heart of Blended By Mama.
Some blends stay and become part of the collection. Others appear for a season and then disappear again, making room for something new.
And that’s exactly how I want it to be.
