Mother Nature In Mind

The natural world in which we live has always amazed me since I was a young girl; over the years that fascination and curiosity has grown into a real passion and respect for just how beautiful Mother Nature is and how important it is that we as humans do what we can to sustain her future.

With Blended By Mama I only use the highest quality ingredients. When it comes to my melts for instance the beeswax I use is completely chemical free, 100% pure, Grade A quality and only ever from trusted beekeepers. The aim is to continuously source the beeswax as locally as possible or from UK based beekeepers. Our country’s diverse weather patterns can however have an effect on production levels so it can be a little hit and miss; if sourcing good quality UK beeswax isn’t possible the wax comes from trusted beekeepers over in Hungary. Whatever the route the wax has taken, you can be safe in the knowledge that it’s been carefully sourced with sustainability and quality in mind.

The essential oils used to create my blends both in the melts and within the Bottle Blends are 100% pure, cruelty free and ethically and sustainably sourced. I chose against using ‘fragrance oils’ which are often found in scented wax melts and candles as they are made up of synthetically made chemical scent compounds and hold no aromatherapy benefits that natural oils do. It might bump up the cost a little but the satisfaction of creating and providing something completely natural I think outweighs this issue.

Other ingredients that feature within the wax melts have been sourced as locally as possible; the dried lavender is from the wonderful Yorkshire Lavender in the Yorkshire Moors National Park and the coffee beans used in my homemade coffee infused coconut oil are from the beautifully quaint The Alchemist’s Cottage situated in the town of Hawes, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The Deities have been made with sustainably sourced herbs and spices, ethically mined crystals and the illustrations that come with each Deity is printed on seeded card that can then go on to be planted to grow an array of beautiful native meadow flowers in your own garden. More information on the Deities can be found here.

When it comes to the packaging it was important to keep it completely plastic free; so everything from the cardboard boxes the wax melts arrive in to the natural twine used to tie them with, can either be recycled or put in your composting bin. Even the melts can be composted when the scent from the oils has evaporated, but they may take a little longer to break down.

When setting up Blended By Mama the environment was and will always continue to be one of my main focal points. For me it’s about keeping things as authentic and as real as possible; harnessing and celebrating the gifts that Mother Earth has given us but also showing her the respect and consideration she deserves.
